An anchorite stops walking
In the middle of the lake,
Turns and looks at his
Poised footsteps,
And waits

Until their ripples disappear.

Invisible to boatmen,
He then wears his sandals,
Inverts his body,
Testing the upper dactyls of faith.

He sees an unrecognizable face,

And resting on his hands notices that
Phalanges have left muddy hand-prints
In reflections of clouds,
Looking like bloated, pale worms.

(so this topic will be used by me to post poems, I will try not to create new topics for new poems, I decided it's best to keep it all in one place, so poetry by me will be posted here, members that have something to say can quote the poem they want to talk about.. I hope it works.)

Hi Nic, 🤩
You are welcome to only post here if you prefer. It is important that people feel free to find their feet again without anxiety. I imagine we still have not decided how the rest of the site will pan out but to have a safe space for members old and new to express themselves is the way to go.

Your poetry is deep and rich requiring a lot of reading to extract the message. It is also an incredible achievement for a proud Greek (so you should be btw) to be able to actually write such poetry in another language.
Well done indeed. 🧐 😎

this particular poem 'Reflections' is about a man who decided to become a saint only to find out that the real, alive flesh has less worms than the reflected sky, that anything 'reflected' is dead.

Hotter

A voice in the dark,

petrified by the fact
it's a voice that belongs
to someone supposedly dead,

A memory alive and well,
still fucked up and good. And somehow

Hotter.

(a draft)...

Division

Each night he waits on bridges
for trains to pass.
In the air there’s only
the distress signal
of his personal Titanic,
the stationmaster’s whistle,
to jump or not to jump
as pointless as the echo
of never a straight answer.
In the mirror -back home-
there; a multiplying shadow.
Sometimes he asks the cup
his wife holds, why doesn’t he
have vertical eyes.
She no longer thinks
he is addressing her,
but the handle which
resembles a tiny bridge.

Re-happening

In the eerie valley named
after Persephone, on the surface
of the Moon, carefully you walk
among the unhatched eggs of hope,
calling out the names of
Artemis, Hecate, Selene and Zeus.
Your consciousness as heavy
as Saturn's scythe, falls upon a shell
and you pick a life, a different role,
same sensual strife.
Earthly years that go around the Sun,
Apollo's gate and throne,
"to be or not to be" an echo
in your mind and soul, a black hole
slowing down the clock,
pressing for a comeback against
your body to move the Wheel
and water the tree of knowledge,
whose fruits are lotuses, which
grew unbordered.

Depressurised

the distance that separated me from you was bigger than the hug God could give the world.
I have reached the level beyond levels,
I knew I was there when the mechanical beep stopped.
for a brief moment that seemed like eons I learned how it is to not need oxygen anymore
and that's what I had to learn last
the terror of not needing air, the terror of willingly surrendering to such terror.
emptiness asphyxiated me with its abundant freedom from everything.
all was inside me and I was inside all.
I couldn't see hear smell sense any trace of you

and that's how my limits expanded or should I say disintegrated in the absence of your attention.
that's what made my focus so clear.

Dad

in memory of my father

I.

Which weight Dad
slipped from your shoulders
onto mine,
when standing in a corridor
of a hospital decades ago
and the staff transferred
a body covered head to toe
and I asked you
“don’t you think Dad
this was a corpse?”

and you replied
“Yes, but we are here
for other reasons, aren’t we?”

II.

And now I know,
if you were standing next to me
at your funeral and if I were to ask you
“don’t you think Dad
this is unfair?”
you’d still say the same,
that I was there for other reasons,
careful not to slip more weight
onto my shoulders.

Beautifully poignant Nic. Something indescribable, subtle but deeply felt in the core happens when we lose a parent. Of course we never really lose them do we? Nevertheless, a cloak of new responsibility is hung around our shoulders and the awareness of the transience of everything...

The love and loss shines through this.

@ifyouplease I know, it is very hard. I still go to phone my mum or think, "wait till I tell mum".. 😢
I think most of us just get to used to it but a part of us finds it hard to let go. I just think, well she will be there to meet me when my time comes. 😞

I am sending you much love. It can take years and years if truth be known. xxx

thank you Alison,

it is the circumstances that make me so sad, they died in a horrible way, Dad and my dog and I find it unfair. What's a fair death for a good creature or at least a human being that hasn't done anything truly nasty? die peacefully in his /her sleep or something similar. all the other things that usually take place are unfair. there is a lot of unecessary pain and evil in this life/world.. and so we theorize trying to understand.. but the truth is that we have no authority and no free will especially near the end.

I agree totally. I feel more and more I am inhabiting an alternative reality where many have lost the plot. It is extremely depressing and I have to steel myself to venture out to be bossed about by zombies.
I really don't know what it's going to take.... Surprised

PRONE

There's a box in the wilderness

I'm trying hard to find.

It opens and screams your name.

You run,

Forever prone to

conspicuousness.
